Steel Challenge is a fun sport for kids, beginners, people wanting to ease into action shooting, or someone who wants to focus on the shooting aspect of action shooting with litlle to no moving. Steel challenge has eight standardized stages that are the same from club to club.
Another benefit to Steel Challenge is the ability to compete with .22 or rimfire firearms. This allows for recoil sensitive or new shooters to participate with smaller calibers than some of the other action sports.
Also you can participate with minimum gear.
Most clubs will allow you to start from a low ready eliminating the need for a holster.

IDPA stands for the international Defensive Pistol Association. This is a fun way to practice self defense pistol techniques. They create courses that are BASED on self defense scenarios and have rules used to enforce stratagies used in real life defensive situations.
IDPA competitors use firearms from one of seven divisions, with common defensive firearm characteristics. IDPA requires that you use a strong side holster with enough tension that would hold the firearm securely during regular everyday activities and must be concealable. You must also use a cover garnmnet that will cover the firearm when holstered. Active law enforcement may use duty gear.

USPSA is a division of the International Practical Shooting Confederation, and is all about running and gunning. You find your way through courses and figure out the fastest way to shoot the course and score the most points. USPSA uses a scoring system that is calculated as points per second.
USPSA has several divisions including Pistol Caliber Carbine, Open, limited, revovler, among others. Race guns and race holsters are very welcome in this sport, but are not required. Production guns have their place here as well. Although all competitors are ranked against each other they are also compared ranked by their division to ensure that race guns and stock pistols
